The Away Inn is ideally located on the northern edge of Fort Lauderdale in the charming seaside village of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. This is the preferred area of greater Fort Lauderdale because of the small-town casual and friendly atmosphere where locals and tourists spend time walking the streets of this quaint area both daytime and nighttime. There is no shortage of activities in which you may indulge yourself - sports, dining, sightseeing, nightclubs and cultural opportunities are in large supply. Of course, you can always just simply relax poolside or answer that beckoning call from the beach just a short walk (480 feet) away where you can rent beach chairs for a small daily fee from the concessionaire at the beach.

If you like fishing you have your choice of
several deep-sea charter boats or try your luck on the fishing pier
located less than a 1/2 mile from the hotel.
We are also conveniently located within a few miles from
the Galleria Shopping Mall, the Pompano Fashion Square Mall, the Broward
Mall, Coral Ridge Mall, Sawgrass Mills, Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk,
Beachplace and the Shops of Las Olas Boulevard. 
Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport is 10
miles southwest of the hotel. Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport is 5
miles west of the hotel.
Miami International Airport is 35 miles south of the hotel.
Palm Beach International Airport is located 30 miles north of the hotel.
Port Everglades is located just 9 miles south of the
hotel. With one of the deepest harbors in the United States, Port
Everglades hosts many of the major cruise lines such as Princess
Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Discovery Cruise Line and
many more.

With a natural reef situated just 100 yards offshore, the
greater Fort Lauderdale area has become a mecca for diving enthusiasts;
this reef is the 2nd most visited reef in the world - only the Great
Barrier Reef of Australia is visited more. There is a wide choice of diving companies from which to choose.
The greater Fort Lauderdale area offers our guests a wide
variety of challenging golf courses. Whether you are a novice or a
seasoned player you'll have no problem finding a nearby course that's
just right for your level of play.
The Florida Everglades is only 30 minutes west of
the hotel. There are many airboat tour companies to safely guide you
through this wonder of nature. Chances are always very good that you'll
see some alligators and chances are even better that they will
see you! 
This year's July 4th
celebration will be special indeed - a $35,000 pyrotechnic extravaganza
will be produced on the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea beach. The fireworks show
will be simply amazing. Watch the show from the beach or our courtyard.
The annual Fort Lauderdale Winterfest Christmas Boat Parade usually
occurs 2 Saturdays prior to Christmas. Nearly 200 boats of every size
"put on the ritz" and deck the decks with light displays. The parade
takes place on the Intracoastal Waterway where you'll find a wide
variety of restaurants and lounges from which you may view the splendor
of Christmas, Fort Lauderdale style! 
Every year on the first or second Tuesday of December Lauderdale by the
Sea celebrates Christmas in its own unique way with local talent of all
kinds performing, dancing and singing their way into your hearts. It's
the perfect way for parents to give their families that special taste of
Christmas as only Lauderdale by the Sea can provide.
